leaving on a jet...train?

Those wacky Soviets apparently tried to put jet engines on trains.

Who says sci-fi can't be historical? Check out Klingons Crossing the Delaware.

you can't kill the 80s (no matter how much you try)

Someone out there thinks it's a good idea to bring back American Gladiators. Would this really be entertaining in a new version? Would it still have the kitsch?

prison writings

Slate has a cool article on Guantanamo inmate poetry. Regardless of what you think of the prison (and believe me, I have some pretty strong feelings), it's always interesting to see how the human spirit will react.

on living behavior

Dust 'comes alive' in Space, from The Times:

"SCIENTISTS have discovered that inorganic material can take on the characteristics of living organisms in space, a development that could transform views of alien life."

Neat article...it brings up the question "what does "alive" mean?" Our definitions of life are never really that comprehensive. It's all about complexity.

acting!

Slate has a good article called "How Al Pacino got typecast as Al Pacino." It's worth noting that he is far from the only actor who just plays himself all the time.

Black Swamp Arts Festival

Bowling Green's annual Black Swamp Arts Festival has its music schedule up, and it's a doozy...Robbie Fulks, Leon Redbone, Alejandro Escovedo, and more!

and away we go...

On my main blog, Themikedubose, I've been posting random thoughts, rants, non-fiction pieces, and similar things for a few years. What I have avoided doing was the standard "these are the web sites I saw today" thing. I always looked at that blog as my excuse to write and little more.

Lately, I've started to get the desire to keep a record of my personal good web finds. I've had this blog floating around for a while, so this seemed like the perfect place. I get high speed access today, so I'll be able to do a lot more web browsing, so now seems like the perfect time.

So, stay tuned. When I find the drastically cool, weird, innovative, insightful, and just plain "what the hell?" sites, you will find them here.
